Links to the Bible, The Book of Common Prayer, and the Lectionary

Like most Episcopal Churches, St. Alban’s uses the New Revised Standard Version for its liturgies, and recommends it to the typical Bible reader.  Click on the Bible icon below for a web site that publishes the complete NRSV translation.

The Book of Common Prayer was first put into use in the Church of  England in 1549.  It has gone through many revisions since then.  The BCP now in use was first published in 1979.  Click on the Prayer Book icon for a web site that features it.

St. Alban’s uses the Revised Common Lectionary for almost all its liturgies.  This means our  worshipers are hearing the same bible lessons on a Sunday morning as many other Christians.  Click on the RCL icon for all the readings.

The Episcopal Church and several other denominations read selections from the Bible in a 3-year rotation.  We are presently in Year A.  Year B will begin the first Sunday of Advent (November 27, 2011), and Year C twelve months later on Advent I, 2012.
